Newsletter - Summer 2009

Hi again everyone,

I have just had some really great news that I wanted to share with my customers past, present and future. I have recently completed a Diploma called the Higher Certificate of Cynology and have achieved a Distinction! I am absolutely delighted with this result.

For those of you that may not know, Cynology is study of the Canine. In this course I have learned so much, from brain development of the canine, canine learning and communication, pack behaviour and territoriality, more dog training and behaviour problem solving. During the course I was also lucky enough to carry out a wolf study of the pack of wolves at the Anglian Wolf Society. The course has been hard work, but will enable me to offer an even better service to my customers, both human and canine.

I hope you are all enjoying the lovely summer weather. Do keep in mind that dogs can suffer due to the heat. Try to walk your dog early or late in the day when it is coolest. Offer lots of drinks of cool water. Please do not leave your dogs in cars / conservatories / caravans while it is so hot, the temperature when shut inside can escalate very quickly and your dog will suffer.

On long car journeys stop for lots of drink / fresh air breaks and keep the air conditioning on. It is also a good idea to invest in some sunscreens to keep your dog out of the full sun while travelling. During the warm weather, remember to keep a careful watch for fleas and ticks, you can get treatments from your vet for these. Check your dog regularly for grass seeds and sticky bobs getting stuck in their coat and make sure any ponds / streams / sea are safe before allowing your dog to swim. I’ve been stuffing a Kong and leaving it in the fridge for an hour before giving it to Indie – sort of a doggy ice lollie!

Well that’s all for now, thanks again for your continuing support, enjoy your holidays and keep in touch. I’m off into the garden with Indie to do some training for that intermediate course that is coming soon.

All the very best.

Jo
